Within you will find surname lists of those who filed mining claims from 1861 through nearly the end of the century. Included in this index is the claim location, month, date, and year of the claim; and the page number of the record's location in the book. This information comes from a microfilm roll (Idaho Country # 20)located at the Idaho Research Center in Boise, Idaho. The last time I saw the original record book, it was located at the Grangeville, Idaho museum.

Below is a photograph taken near where the original Florence townsite had been. Actually, there were two Florence town sites - one from the 1861 rush and another site for a later rush in the 1880s. Very few buildings remain in this area now. Some log structures have caved in over time and what few modern-looking buildings remain probably were built in the 1930s to 1950s. These too, are becoming dilapitated as each year passes.
