All that is bolded and italicized is my emphasis to indicate mis-representation of Grimes's part in the gold discovery and erroneous facts regarding his death. Thus, continues the myth.
Five acres of government land immediately surrounding the grave of George Grimes, discoverer of gold in Boise Basin, was granted to the Sons of Idaho by the United States Forest Service, Thursday.
The permit was made out to Herbert Lemp, president of the organization and gives authority to clear brush, build trails, and erect a monument to the memory of the man who did more to establish Boise than any other one individual.
George Grimes, together with several companions, was led to the gold fields by an Indian on Aug 10, 1862. He never lived to enjoy the treasures which he had found, as he was killed by his Shoshone guide on the day of their arrival.
His grave has remained unmarked at the present, but the Sons of Idaho will erect a suitable monument within a few months. Converences with presidents of Boise basin have already been arranged, and this government permit removes the last possible obstacle.
